If you are buying a standalone DVD writer, I would buy a DVD+R unit UNLESS it has a hard drive in which case I would buy the -R. I'm convinced DVD-R will outplace DVD+R pretty much forever.ġ1. The 4x media is expensive but it is coming down. If I had to buy a drive today I would by the Sony DVD+-RW drive that can write all formats or I would buy the Pioneer 105 that does 4x. DVD+RW is sorta compatible with lots of DVD players if you use the compatibility setting. My father-in-law has the Philips and I dearly wish I had bought that instead of wasting all my money on various boards and software.ġ0. I tell them to buy the panasonic DMR-e30 or the Philips 985. ShowShifter on the PC is painful to use and looks like it was written by cartoon caracters. They can handle the new boxes with no issue.Ħ. ReplayPC is alway retarded in controlling satellite boxes via Serial. Editing the video in any way is a good way to destroy it unless you now monkey with Time_Fix or womble. I mine as well just capture using the Adaptec card. Pulling video then takes 35-40min per hour. The ReplayPC is the coolest way to extract video but the best speed I can achieve is 15min per hour to pull followed by 20 min per hour to convert. Yes you can burn it to a DVD but it's nonstandard.ĥ. the video files are 480x480 and import poorly into anything without massive conversion. The DirecTivo is a nightmare unless you are Linux savy and even then. I've extracted video from both ReplayPC and from my DirecTivo's. It forces you to use Sonic's MyDVD product but it generates excellent and small video files.Ĥ. The easiest way to get video into the PC is to use the external Adaptec VideoDoh! DVD product. The most common is audio / video sync problems or bad software.ģ. Hauppage, ATI Radeon, Dazzle (firewire, MPEG2, etc.), and the Adaptec cards. I'ved used almost every capture card out there. Plus you always forget and leave the screensaver on. They never start up right and take forever. I've been playing over the past year with numerous products on my quest to take video with me on the airplane and have pretty much come to the same conclusions.
